Revealed! Lamborghini Centenario, the 759-hp Birthday Present  Mar 1st, 2016
When normal people die, they are remembered in framed photographs or personal anecdotes told by their loved ones. Pillars of the community might get their name on a street or a ball field, but for most of us, that’s where our legacy stops. But if you’re a dead Italian tractor-builder-cum-supercar-constructor named Ferruccio Lamborghini, who would […]

Key Audi rivals BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even Lexus have flooded the market with every conceivable size and shape of crossover SUV over the past decade or so. The original Corvette Grand Sports stalked racetracks in the 1960s, but the name went dormant until it was revived in 1996 for the final year of the C4-generation Corvette. With a 30-hp bump over stock and the wider wheels and tires of the mighty ZR-1—and the bulging fenders to match—that Grand Sport also sported a […]

Ken Block Unleashes Smokin’ Hades Upon the UAE in Gymkhana 8 [Video]  Mar 1st, 2016
If Ken Block knows anything, it’s his audience. As a pro skater, he launched DC Shoes with Danny Way. As his Gymkhana series grew into the bated-breath juggernaut it’s become, Block has worked to make […]

Social-Media Snafu: New Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Confirmed for Geneva  Feb 29th, 2016
Auto manufacturers work tirelessly to keep secrets, particularly when it comes to keeping the lid on leaks about new products. The Most Entertaining Facts, Figures, and Boasts from the Bugatti Chiron Press Release  Feb 29th, 2016
There is nothing subtle about Bugatti’s new Chiron hypercar. How could there be? It has a quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder engine, costs $2.6 million, and boasts a top speed of 261 mph. As you’d expect, the press release for the Chiron is as unsubtle as the car itself, which is wholly appropriate. Press releases for regular cars […]

Ford Fiesta ST200: Bringing Europeans Up to America’s Level  Feb 29th, 2016
Typically, when a special-edition variant of a performance car sold here is offered to Europeans, it’s more powerful or better in some way, inciting jealousy on this side of the Atlantic. This isn’t such a case. The Ford Fiesta ST200, making its debut at the 2016 Geneva auto show, is more powerful than the standard Euro-market Fiesta […]

Set Mouth to Water: This Ford GT40 Road Car Is Heading to Auction  Feb 29th, 2016
Back in the 1960s, if you wanted to race in the GT class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, you had to build at least 25 road-going versions of your race car. That was a pretty great rule because it gave the world cars like this, the Ford GT40 Mk I street car. This […]

2016 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 Driven! With Great Power Comes . . . Well, You Know  Feb 29th, 2016
At Car and Driver, our love of sports sedans is well known, and Infiniti built one of the best such cars in recent memory. It was called the G35, and it offered a viscerally satisfying combination of power, noise, and handling—and its successor, the G37, was just as good. However, the G cars’ successor, the […]

Toyota’s C-HR concept spent the last two years on a grand tour of sorts. With the Bugatti Veyron’s top-speed records, a price tag over $1 million, and distinctive melted-scoop-of-ice-cream styling, it was an instant rolling superlative when it debuted in 2005. Its successor, the new Chiron, is even more of a record- and headline-grabbing show pony. Is it faster? A 310-mph speedometer and Bugatti’s claim that it’ll do 261 […]

2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-class First Drive: Further Refined for Your Pleasure  Feb 27th, 2016
When you reach the price of the Mercedes-Benz SL-class roadster, the market does something unusual: It separates. In many segments, car companies are viciously duplicating each other as fast as possible with nearly identical products, but among $100,000–$150,000 sports convertibles, the choices vary widely in personality and purpose. 2017 Lexus LC500 Coupe Dissected: Design, Powertrain, Chassis, and More  Feb 26th, 2016
The last time Lexus ran a supercar up its flagpole, people’s heads exploded. Well, the 500 LFA drivers’ heads did, but the rest of the 7 billion earthlings were merely confused. It was hard to see how the carbon-fiber tub or 9000-rpm 72-degree V-10 were going to trickle down to ES350s and RX hybrids. So […]

Alfa Romeo Updates the Giulietta—But Is It Truly “Nuova”?  Feb 26th, 2016
Except for the much-delayed Giulia, there has been very little coming from Alfa Romeo in terms of new product—and the eight-car plan put forth by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne a while ago is wilting. So Alfa has to work with what it’s got. Thus the brand has performed a mid-cycle facelift on the Giulietta, the European-market sister […]

2016 BMW X1 Tested: Is a FWD-Based Bimmer a Bummer?  Feb 26th, 2016
We warned you this was coming. After a half century spent in the righteous pursuit of driving excellence—rear-wheel drive, spunky four- and six-cylinder engines, near-50:50 weight distributions—BMW clicked its corporate turn signal to veer off in a dastardly direction. The kidney-grilled, Hofmeister-kinked X1 xDrive28i featured here is the first of a troop of front-drive-based BMWs […]

The Most Commonly Leased Car Brands in America (and the Most Commonly Purchased)  Feb 26th, 2016
From the March 2016 issue What do drivers of Smart Fortwos and Maseratis have in common? It’s not their propensity to park illegally, but a shared distaste for car ownership. Three-quarters of them lease, the easiest way to slide into any new car with the least commitment and typically less upfront cash. With help from […]

Advertising the 1990s: It Was Longer Ago than You Think  Feb 26th, 2016

Advertising is nothing if not a cultural barometer, and this roundup of ads from the ’90s provides a good indication of which way the winds blew. […]

Land Rover Defender Replacement Delayed to 2018 or 2019  Feb 26th, 2016
The death of the Land Rover Defender last month triggered a period of something close to national mourning in the UK as the country grieved the loss of what was, alongside the double-decker London bus or fume-spouting black cab being driven by a bald cockney keen to discuss soccer scores, the nation’s greatest automotive icon. An Electric Supercar with a French Accent  Feb 26th, 2016

Pagani hasn’t made a rational car yet, and the Huayra BC does little to change that fact. Chevrolet, GMC Trying Again with Silverado and Sierra Hybrid Pickups  Feb 25th, 2016
